Matthew references the destruction of Jerusalem. Revelation is an apocalyptic text. It stands to reason that they are about different things. But neither of those things have any kind of greater fulfillment. Arguably Revelation has no real fulfillment at all.

by nowwhat? inthe bible clearly says a generation is 40 years (exodus and job) the 1st half of the last century saw wars, famines, pestilence.
if 1914 was the correct starting date the end should have came by the mid 1950's ( which the witnesses believed at the time) this fact alone proves beyond a shadow of a doubt.
jesus was only speaking of the events of the 1st century..

I was so unclued up on doctrine as a young born-in that I didn't even realise the great tribulation and armageddon were separate events till well after I'd left the religion behind. The absence of any real clarity in the publications didn't help, nor did the lack of internet access on my part.

I'm always a bit cagey when people start talking about the entire story of Jesus being part of some recurring allegory, it all sounds a bit Zeitgeist-esque. I'll have to look into what you just wrote, because I've never come across this particular interpretation before.

I'm not sure what to make of this thread, or where to begin. This all seems very reactionary, and any legitimate concerns are presented in such a hysterical fashion that it's hard to even read them, let alone take them seriously.
I will make one very concise point. Most of the world's problems* are caused almost exclusively by three things: fear, greed and tribalism. This thread concerns the latter, and the solution is for people of all types to somehow learn to come together and exist as one people. Fat chance of that happening though, let's be honest.
* Specifically the problems that pertain to the politics of people, as opposed to environmental concerns like climate change, habitat loss, and mass extinction (all of which are far more important than any of this, by the way).
